The Grammys are always a fun award show to watch in regards to fashion. It’s a little more informal compared to the Golden Globes or the Oscars, as it should be, since it’s basically a big concert with some awards thrown in there. Celebrities get to take a few more fashion risks. Some risks really pay off, but others… not so much. Sometimes I’m extremely puzzled by some of the fashion choices of celebrities, particularly because most of them pay stylists to help them look their best. Not to say that what they’re wearing is the most important, since they are beautiful people in their own right. However, often times, I’m left completely stumped at certain fashion choices, especially when an expert stylist was hired to put the look together. The most looked-over part of clothing choices that stylists should take a closer look at are the silhouettes, lines, and the fit. No matter how outlandish an outfit is, if it has an impeccable fit, extenuates your body type and brings out your beauty compared to distracting from it, it will most likely be a big hit among the critics. With that said, here are a few of my favorite looks from tonight’s show:
Honestly, it was a little hard to pick looks I actually liked. Even the styles I chose as my personal favorites were rated “nots” on several different sources’ “hot or not” lists. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend look very sharp in their ensembles. Chrissy Teigen’s gown is the perfect combination of glam and sexy, and for me the reflective metallic pattern isn’t too distracting. Katy Perry’s look got a lot of bad comments in reference to the music notes. Many said it was unoriginal and taking the theme of the night too far, but I like it! I think the music notes give a whimsical and very Katy Perry-esque touch to an otherwise very soft and subtle look. Taylor Swift took the silver trend to the next level in her Gucci Premiere gown. She looks effortlessy chic and I loved her full on silver eye make-up as well. It is a fresh way to do metallics and is a little more refined than its brother metallic, gold. Last but not least, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Although they aren’t sporting a standard suit, I appreciate the fact that they’re well-tailored and unique.
What do you guys think? What were your favorite looks of the 2014 Grammys?
