Trip to Texas

BY TARA BURKE

We’re in Texas! We came to visit our family who moved to Texas awhile back and decided we’d come a few days early to check out Austin. We had heard it was a cool city with street art, great eats and live music. Cailin and I are big fans of street art. It’s a lot of fun running into cool art while you’re just walking around, and it seemed like there was some kind of street art everywhere we turned in Austin. We found a lot of street art with cute sayings in South Congress, which ended up being one of our favorite places in Austin.

Later that night we went to The Liberty on East 6th St., since we heard it was a cool night spot for locals and housed a popular food truck in the back. We sat in the backyard’s large seating area, which almost every restaurant, cafe and bar has in Austin. It had a relaxed and hip atmosphere. If we lived in Austin it would definitely be on the top of our happy hour list.

Being in the live music capital of the world, we had to check out some of the music Austin had to offer. We headed to the Blackheart on Rainey St. which has live music every night of the week. We caught the “coral reef rock” band Summer Salt and chatted at one of their outdoor tables. They had all different genres of music going all night, so it is definitely a good place to take a group of people with multiple tastes in music. Of course, we ate and scoped out the coffee scene of Austin too! We tried so many great places we thought we’d do a Austin food and coffee roundup for ya’ll (haha, we are in Texas, right?!). So all you foodies stay posted!
