Make it black

Sometimes you just wake up and pass all the color in your closet and go for the black edgy outfit. Granted, that doesn’t happen to me all too often, haha! I wear a lot of color & like crazy designs (the more unique the better), but when I found this PUMA x Selena Gomez collab athlesiure dress, I thought it was the coolest thing.

The details and quality of this piece are amazing, and it is beyond comfortable. The mesh sleeves are built in and the jersey material is super thick, which makes it a perfect fall dress to stay warm in. It also has a pull away snap button hem all the way down the dress AND is also a high-low cut.

Fall Fashion

BY TARA BURKE

Being Upstate NY gals we’ve grown up around several apple orchards, so like clockwork every fall we go apple picking! It’s always such a fun way to welcome the new season, get some delicious apples, cider, and cider doughnuts…and it’s a great location for photos.

I like to wear comfy cozy sweaters as often as I can and this Volcom sweater is so warm and fuzzy. I like how the pattern is only on one side and how one sleeve ends in black and the other doesn’t.

My jeans are Wild Fable from Target. They are also super comfy and you can’t tell from any of these photos because my sweater is covering it, but they are actually high-waisted button ups! I finished my outfit with my clogs from MIA Shoes.

Do Your Thing

BY TARA BURKE

I’ve been doing more blogging on Instagram these days and this is what I posted as the caption for this outfit:

When you’re tempted to look to the right and left at other people’s callings, successes, & blessings, remember God chose you for a specific “thing” that He purposed for you before you were born. Do your thing, run your race, carry your cross. There’s freedom in not chasing after things God didn’t call you to, not running in multiple races and not putting crosses on your back that weren’t meant for you.

It’s so important to not get consumed with comparison and be confident in the purposes that God has for YOU and only YOU. It’s definitely easier said than done, but God has freedom for you when you trust in His plan for your life. This top reminds me of that and it was on sale at Target for $3 (lol) so it was a win-win on all accounts. I also got the pants and platform sandals from Target as well.

Athletic Style

BY TARA BURKE

You guys know I love my unique clothing pieces, so when I saw this Desigual sweater I got all heart eyed. It has a fun kind of sporty casual vibe, but is also filled with color and sequins!

If any piece of clothing combines several different fabrics and cuts I’m all about it. This sweater has so many color blocking, texture, and trim details. I really loved how the bottom was the trim of a traditional bomber jacket in the back, but they cut it off for a high-low hem line.

Dealing with emotions

BY TARA BURKE

“The prayers and supplications that Christ offered up were, joined with strong cries and tears, herein setting us example not only to pray, but to be fervent and importunate in prayer. How many dry prayers, how few wet ones, do we offer up to God!” – Matthew Henry

Let them out. Yes, let all the ugly tears roll down your cheeks, let the ache sit in your heart for more than two seconds, let yourself break.

In a world that glorifies being strong and resilient I think we’ve lost touch with being vulnerable and weak. We love to quote, 2 Corinthians 12:10 – For when I am weak, then I am strong.”(ESV), but if we’re honest with ourselves we often don’t ever want to go through the weak part… we just want to make it to the strong part.

For most of my life I’ve been very good at the strong part in public and the weak part in private. As I’ve grown in God it has blended into a mixture of both public strength and weakness. I think God is most glorified when our weakness acts as a wick, laid in the oil of our pain, only to be lit on fire by the strength of God Almighty himself. As we embrace our hurt, our struggles, our shame and our failures we can lay them before God to spark effervescent light, which is why Paul talks so passionately about boasting in his weaknesses.

“Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV)

Plaid Blazer x Graphic Tee

BY TARA BURKE

This plaid (really tartan pattern) blazer from the 90s was an amazing find I took straight out of my Mom’s stockpile. It came with shoulder pads and all, which I usually take out, but this blazer had them sewn into the entire stitching of the shoulder, so that was a no-go. I love that this blazer isn’t stiff, but is made out of a cloth-like material. It makes it the perfect casual piece to add a little more interest to a fun graphic tee.

NY Reproductive Health Act Thoughts

love never gives up

Been doing some thinking on the Reproductive Health Act that was just passed in NY, especially late term abortions. Although it can be very easy to sit in judgement on either side of the camp, I often think using our voices sometimes drowns out God’s… even if our intention was to make God’s voice known. Comment sections fill with people simply defending instead of leading (I’ve got a whole essay behind this thought…if you’re interested in hearing it, lmk in the comments).

Saturday Shoot Day

BY TARA BURKE

To get our creative momentum going Cailin and I often go out on Saturdays to shoot some photos. We have now become accustomed to calling these adventures, “Saturday Shoot Days.” At times we’ll have a look or aesthetic in mind, but this time we just chose a location and worked off of that. If you live near or in Upstate NY, going to an apple orchard every fall is basically a right of passage. It might be basic, but come on… who doesn’t like fresh apples off the tree, some cider and of course some apple cider doughnuts?! So off we went to a local orchard to take some photos.
