Happy Feature Friday!

Today we’re talking to the creator behind Lily Featherston Design to hear all about her background and the amazing prints, cards, and other fun products she creates! We think it is amazing that Lily bases all of her work off of subjects she truly loves — which is why you’ll see so many animals and nature based imagery in her designs. She doesn’t just stick to one medium and is always trying out new ways to create prints or even put her designs on new surfaces! We can’t wait to see where her work will take her next, so keep reading to learn more about Lily Featherston Design and get inspired along the way!

: Tell us a little about yourself.

: Hi! I’m a 27 year old artist living in New Hampshire with my boyfriend. I’ve spent most of my life in New Hampshire, but I moved to Portsmouth in 2013, about a year after graduating from college. Portsmouth is a beautiful little city on the coast, and I absolutely love it. When I’m not inside making art, I like to explore the coast and be by the ocean. I like pretty much all things seafood, so I spend a fair amount of time eating as well!

: You’re located in New Hampshire and grew up there. What about your environment has affected your artwork?

: I grew up in a small town, in a house surrounded by forest, so I spent almost all of my time in the woods. My family is very outdoor oriented so we were often hiking and exploring. We had a dog, and right down the road was a small farm, so I loved animals from a young age. When I was around 9 years old I got to take care of a lamb for a week. He had to be bottle fed, and I grew really attached to him. I remember he had the fuzziest little face, and he would clop along after me wherever I went. Sheep have become a common subject of mine, and I really think it stems from that early experience with “lamby” (Very original, I know!)

Feature Friday: LITTLE BATCH Candle Co.

Happy Feature Friday!

We’re so excited to be featuring our very first candle company, LITTLE BATCH Candle Co.! Andrew crafts the most unique and true to their name scents and we love how much is put into each product — from the packaging and design, to the work to create the perfect scent! We are huge candle lovers (you should see the collection we have going!) so it was great to get to test out a few of these candles ourselves! What we really loved about them, was that the scents were dead on to their name and they truly fill a room. LITTLE BATCH offers so many scents so we’re sure you’re bound to find one that fits you perfectly! Keep reading to learn more about how LITTLE BATCH came to be, why soy wax is so beneficial, and the whole process behind bringing these scents and candles to life.

: Tell us a little bit about yourself!

: My name is Andrew Kruep, and I have my own “little” Etsy shop called LITTLE BATCH Candle Co; an artisanal candle company focused on making high quality, 100% hand crafted, and fully customizable soy candles. I’m also a very proud resident of Jersey City, NJ (about 15 minutes from Manhattan), which is where LITTLE BATCH is based!

: How did you become interested in making and selling your own candles? And how did you learn to do it?!

: Well, I have always been an avid candle lover. I absolutely love walking into a room after a candle is lit; I feel like it can completely change your entire perspective, or mood, in one moment. Because of that, I was spending WAY too much money on candles (truth!) and I wondered what it would be like to make my own. I went online and bought a small, run of the mill, soy candle making kit (a few days before a huge snowstorm here on the East Coast) and fell in love with the process of creating candles on my own. Of course, it was a kit that came with standard options, so it was very limited. Naturally, I wanted to learn all I could, and create more candles that were tailored to what I liked!

Castle Logo: Tell us a little about yourself!
ever after: Hi, my name is Rosanna, I’m 39 years old and I have two boys, a 6 year old and a 19 year old. My husband and I have always been big dreamers and have wanted to have a business together where we could create beautiful things, express our creativity, and spend more time together. I’ve always wanted the freedom and excitement that come with having my own business. In 2015 I decided to open an Etsy shop. I wasn’t happy at my job and I wanted to start this shop with the hopes that it would grow and that I could do it full time. The company that I worked for was bought out and I ended up being laid off from my corporate job. To me this was the perfect opportunity to put all I had into the business. Our goal is to take this business on the road: travel in our RV, book shows all over the country to bring our décor to people, and have fun doing it. My husband Eric currently has a full time job and is in a punk band with his brother and friends called TLB.

Castle Logo: How did Ever After Enchanted Decor get its start?
ever after: I had the idea for my business when my husband and I were finally able to purchase our home. My goal was to have a home before my oldest son Ethan would leave for college. This did happen! We purchased our home his senior year of high school. I was so happy and I didn’t want to go to the store and buy just anything to fill our home with, I wanted to create beautiful décor that was special and meant something to me. I purchased some pieces from other makers on Etsy that I really loved, but I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for, so I was inspired to create my own pieces. Once I started painting and creating things I just kept finding more inspiration, and one day it just hit me: start a shop that has beautiful décor, inspirational, magical, feminine pieces that are close to my heart.

Feature Friday: Everduring Designs

Happy Feature Friday!

We’re so inspired by today’s feature with Becka from Everduring Designs. We love how much meaning goes behind all of her products and even into the name of her brand itself! Her custom journals and handlettered wood signs all focus on some of life’s most important things and are perfect pieces to celebrate your marriage, new baby, or faith! Becka loves to use her pieces to connect with others, and we think it’s amazing that she really thinks about the person or family that will be enjoying one of her creations. Keep reading to hear about her artistic process, why she loves to create, and some advice she has for anyone looking to start journaling or even pursue a creative endeavor or their own!

: Tell us a few things about yourself!

: Hi, there! My name is Becka and I am from the Houston area. Currently I am a master’s student studying health promotion and nutrition. I opened up my Etsy shop as a creative outlet and a much-needed break from staring at computer screens. I have always loved writing names, scripture, and quotes in an aesthetically appealing style. Now I feel so privileged to be able to create personalized journals and wooden signs for homes, weddings, nursery rooms, etc.

: We love your shop name, Everduring Designs. We know how tough it is to create a brand name! Explain the meaning behind it, how it came to you, and how you think it fits in with what you create.

: In college I had a professor that shared something that impacted my perspective on the meaning of words. He said that every soul was eternal. So then when we speak to another person, our words do not have a temporary effect but rather an eternally significant impact. This helped me realize the weight of words and the necessity for compassionate thoughts and intentions behind our words. With this everlasting significance of words on my mind, I sought out the find a meaningful name for my shop. I knew I wanted to hand-letter words onto products that would exist as keepsakes or a meaningful piece in the home. I wanted the shop name to reflect the importance of those words. I took a chance and searched for some synonyms of “everlasting”. I found the word “everduring” which is an archaic form of everlasting. It is obsolete and we no longer use the word “everduring”, which I found to be ironic. I actually loved the irony that word which was meant to signify “never-ending, everlasting, and enduring” was not enduring in our modern language. I loved that it was rare and unique, so it was definitely a keeper!

She isn’t afraid to try new techniques or experiment, and we think that’s what makes her creations stand out and be so well executed! She’s gotten to where she is through practice and balance — and has some great advice to give through her own creative journey. Keep reading and get ready to seriously crave some cookies!

Castle Logo: Tell us a few fun facts about yourself!

lhe logo 3: Am a software/medical device project manager by trade, but love to use my hands after my “day job” is over.  I am slightly obsessed with my dogs. I know I’m going to have dogs for the rest of my life. My husband and I are pretty dedicated to fitness! We eat a “if it fits your macros” lifestyle and lift weights 4x a week– we were feeling really out of shape after getting our first jobs out of college, and realized that it was time for a change so we can live better, longer. We also LOVE doing obstacle races (for fun, not competition).

SONY DSC

Castle Logo: How did you discover you had a passion for baking and wanted to pursue it to start your own home bakery?
lhe logo 3: This was a complete accident! One day in college (this was in like 2008) I came across a photo of a French Macaron. They were SO ADORABLE that I became instantly obsessed and spent YEARS trying to perfect them. These beautiful little treats definitely sparked my passion for baking. Over the years, I’ve always maintained some form of creative outlet aside from my day job– because I need a well rounded life to be truly happy. I finally took the plunge last year and started this little gig on the side– haven’t looked back since!

Keep reading to learn more about her start and the fun products she creates!

FullSizeRender-23

Castle Logo:  We love your Etsy shop, Studio Twenty Six! How did your store start?studio26: I have always had a love for creating and an entrepreneurial spirit. When I was a little girl I remember going to my grandmother’s house and she would let me help her hand stitch her Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt. Ever since then I found a love for sewing, but it wasn’t until college that I got my first sewing machine as a Christmas gift. I worked on a few small quilts over the next few years, and it wasn’t until I became pregnant with my son that I really started picking up a passion for sewing all kinds of fun baby things for his room. As I searched for the perfect blankets, sheets, etc. I found it was hard to find something that fit my style and didn’t scream “baby”. I wanted his room to be modern and unique with a style he could grow with and wouldn’t feel outgrown when he transitioned from baby to “big boy”. I had so much fun creating everything, and with encouragement from my mom I decided to turn my new found hobby into a business. I spent my maternity leave putting together my first wholesale order, and as my wholesale business started to increase, I decided to take the plunge and open my Etsy store 6 months later in February 2016.

Feature Friday: ArtDanilo

img_1956Happy Feature Friday! Today we’re so excited to feature the work of Danilo Dos Santos of ArtDanilo! We love the central theme behind his art, as it all displays the most beautiful biodiversity of Brazil! Between the colorful birds, turtles, and mammals he draws, you’re able to really see and feel the beauty of his country! Plus – it’s amazing how he uses his work to bring awareness to the importance of nature! His online store is filled with these works of art, so keep reading to see more and hear about how he got his start!

Castle Logo: Tell us a few things about yourself!
screen-shot-2017-02-23-at-9-28-10-pm: I was born in a city that has the name of a plant, Dracena. Here in Brazil we are surrounded by nature on all sides, even our money has drawings of animals. This is my first memory of drawing something, I loved to draw animals from the bills of money and books.
An interesting fact is that before I only drew in black and white, only after I met my beautiful wife Gizele did I start to draw colorful.

img_1001

Castle Logo: Your illustrations are beautiful! What made you decide to focus on biodiversity and portray it in a minimalistic way?
screen-shot-2017-02-23-at-9-28-10-pm: Thanks for the compliment! I decided to work on this topic in the first place because it interests me a lot, and also because it is very good for people to know more about the biodiversity where they live.
I decided to make them small because there are 100 drawings per collection and this way I can do more drawings in less time, and it is also a tribute to my wife who helps me a lot with this project, each drawing sheet has 16 cm, the size of her hand.
