Fourth of July Style

BY CAILIN BURKE

Happy Fourth of July all! We love everything that comes with this holiday — celebrating America and our independence, eating some classic foods, and wearing our red, white, and blue! We both put together outfits that were a little different than the norm and love how they came out. First off, I am obsessed with Tara’s look because… just look at that t-shirt! She thought it would be super fitting to wear a cheeseburger covered tee since it’s a staple July 4th food after all! Even better, these cheeseburgers have faces and are just too adorable and funny! This is definitely a statement tee.

Along with this epic tee (from Delia*s back in the day), she topped it with a denim slip dress and really cool Swedish clogs from MIA Shoes. (I got them for her as a birthday present this year! Success!!) She also threw on a few matching Pura Vida bracelets and wore a red lip to give it that red, white, and blue look!

A Cafe Perfect for Plant Lovers

BY TARA BURKE

We’ve been loving the “jungalow” style of decorating lately, so when we saw this plant wall at Stacks Espresso Bar, we knew we had to share it with our fellow plant lovers. Not much is better than sipping a latte under a dreamy wall of hanging plants.

Long Vests & Pretty Details

BY TARA BURKE

I have been really into long vests lately, so when I found this really cool denim Tommy Hilfiger one at the thrift store – I scored big time! I tap out at 5’1″ so these long vests add an illusion of height and give a simple outfit a sophisticated twist. I wanted the vest to shine in this outfit so I wore all black everythang and paired it with a pair of mules (I think I got from Target) that I’ve had for forever.

Feature Friday: East and Market

Happy Feature Friday!
Today we’re featuring the work and maker behind the brand East and Market! We not only love the accessories and decor Renee makes, but are so enthusiastic about how she repurposes fabrics and materials! She transforms these fabrics into something both beautiful and useful and we are true fans of how sustainable her business is. She also takes on custom projects and you can send her your memorable fabrics to get a new upcycled creation in return! Renee created a video for us showing her creative process and not only answered our questions, but gave some more info on East and Market so you can learn even more about the brand!

knot necklaceHappy Feature Friday!
Today we’re excited to share the story of Abby Alley from Zuri Collection. Being a conscious consumer is so important, so we love what Abby has to say about her mission and the women behind her brand. We, ourselves, love to purchase fair trade items or buy from brands that give back to a cause or create job opportunities in the communities that need them. If you’re going to buy a product anyway, why not choose one that makes a positive impact? We love Abby’s heart for Tanzania and the women who create all of the gorgeous, handcrafted items for Zuri Collection. Read along to hear more about the impact her business is making and see some of the beautiful pieces the talented artisans of Tanzania make.

I have two younger sisters who both live in Chicago, which is so much fun! A few fun facts about me: I’m a Cubs fan, the beach is my happy place, I suffer from a bad case of wanderlust ;), and my faith is really what drives what I do.

Exploring the Omi International Arts Center

BY CAILIN BURKE

If you haven’t noticed by all of our Feature Fridays, we are huge art lovers so if there’s ever a chance to check out a new artist or head to a museum, we’re there!
One day while scrolling through Instagram, I stumbled upon Omi International Arts Center and it looked incredible! Even better, it was located in NY! It wasn’t too far of a drive, so one weekend we headed there to check out all of the art in their Fields Sculpture Park.

We had always passed Storm King Art Center on our drive to college and wanted to go check out the huge sculptures, but never had the chance. So when we saw that the Omi Center had a similar concept and admission was –FREE– we had to go! It’s basically a huge outdoor area with different sculptures strewn throughout the premises.

Sporty Vibes

BY TARA BURKE

We’re all about the laid back sporty look for running around doing errands. We also just like to get away with essentially wearing baggy tees and sweatpants in public. My look consists of an extra baggy athletic tee, a vintage jean jacket, leggings, wedge sneaks and a white baseball cap. I got the tee out thrifting and the jacket is from my lovely sis’s closet. If you’re looking to be a little more intentional with your shopping habits we’d definitely recommend thrift, consignment and vintage shops. We always come across the best finds for a fraction of the cost, you’re reducing waste and most use their profits to benefit amazing causes.

Living the Dream Every Single Day

BY TARA BURKE

This post features two items I’ve had my eyes on for awhile, this Walk in Love long sleeve tee and my Jack Rogers booties. I just loved the saying on this tee because I think it is so important to go after your crazy dreams and believe you are walking and living in them every day. It also reminds me to stay grateful for the love I have around me and the things we’re so blessed to call basics like shelter, food, clothes and safety. If we’re given the opportunity and are able to alleviate other’s burdens in this manner, I’d say we’re living the dream!

DIY Lace Up Tee in Chelsea

BY CAILIN BURKE

The weather was a little nicer than usual, so we thought, “Why not take a walk on the Highline!?” We actually hadn’t been to the Highline in over 2 years since it’s pretty far on the West Side, but it was the perfect day to walk around, pop into Chelsea Market, and end the day with the famous artichoke pizza at Artichoke Basile’s.

I was super excited to debut my most successful DIY upcycled shirt – I literally got this cool tee from Salvation Army for $1 (can I get an amen for Half-Priced Wednesdays at Salvation Army!?) It’s a tee from a building supply company but I thought the graphic was pretty cool so I took it home to cut it up!

Favorite Winter Sweater

BY TARA BURKE

While in the 12South area of Nashville, (travel posts coming soon!) I found this great chunky sweater for $10! The boutique I got it from, Vinnie Louise, had literally just put up the sale sign as we were walking by, so we got first dibs on all their unique merchandise. This sweater was actually from their girl’s line. If you’re petite you can sometimes get away with purchasing from the larger girl’s sizes, so the sleeves were a little short, but I like quarter length sleeves anyway!
