Her pieces are not only unique works of art, but are also completely usable! She’s truly inspired by her surroundings, creating glassware that has amazing depictions of nature and animals — they’re sure to make a statement in your own collection! Her brand’s story will definitely inspire you in your own creative pursuits, so keep reading to hear more about how she got her start, and to see the gorgeous transformations she gives these glasses and plates!

lk: I am a freelance artist from a very small town in Illinois. My husband is in the military so we are currently stationed in Chesapeake, VA and we love it!  I have a five year old daughter who is very interested in art and is often found in my studio acting as my assistant.

Castle Logo: How did you get started with LK Custom Creations and hand painting glassware?
lk: For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a freelance artist but it took a while to figure out exactly what I could create that would be unique. LKCC originally started out as a custom invitation business.  I thought that combining my illustration skills with custom invitations would be a great fit.  I loved the design process but assembling them became a very daunting task for me.  I missed painting so much and I wasn’t about to hand paint hundreds of invitations!  I began to look for anything I could produce that could still be custom, yet outside the world of traditional 2D artwork.  Once I learned to paint on glass I was hooked!  It was usable art and that is what I loved most about it.  I started adding glassware designs to my Etsy site and instantly the glass art began to attract customers.

A few fun facts about me: I’m a Cubs fan, the beach is my happy place, I suffer from a bad case of wanderlust ;), and my faith is really what drives what I do.

Honey & Tea Tasting

BY CAILIN BURKE

Nothing new here — this post talks about matcha, again! … But for all of the matcha lattes in NYC, my favorite green drink is few and far between in Upstate New York (our hometown). I was looking up where I could find matcha in the area, and saw that Saratoga Tea & Honey had one on their menu! So there we went!

IMG_9480

Before we grabbed a latte, we went straight to the back to see their “Honey Room.” It’s just how it sounds, a room with jars of honey everywhere! You can taste all of their varieties which was so fun! I love honey in my tea, yogurt, and smoothies, but for some reason don’t like to eat it plain — so I wasn’t jumping up and down at the chance to sample tons and tons of honey.

Happy Feature Friday!

We can’t wait for you to hear about Kelsey of Studio Twenty Six in today’s feature! If you are parents or excitedly expecting, Studio Twenty Six makes the most amazing baby blankets and accessories. We love Kelsey’s mindset behind her brand, wanting her pieces to be a useful (and beautiful!) part of each family’s lives. Her blankets not only look so cozy, but are great to use for almost any age. And as Kelsey says, wanting a blanket that wouldn’t be quickly outgrown by her son was one of the reasons she started her brand! Keep reading to learn more about her start and the fun products she creates!

Castle Logo: Tell us a little about yourself.
studio26: I’m Kelsey. I’m a 27 year old Iowa Native. When I’m not “making” I’m a wife, mom, bookworm, animal lover, and full-time sales territory manager.

Castle Logo:  We love your Etsy shop, Studio Twenty Six! How did your store start?studio26: I have always had a love for creating and an entrepreneurial spirit. When I was a little girl I remember going to my grandmother’s house and she would let me help her hand stitch her Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt. Ever since then I found a love for sewing, but it wasn’t until college that I got my first sewing machine as a Christmas gift. I worked on a few small quilts over the next few years, and it wasn’t until I became pregnant with my son that I really started picking up a passion for sewing all kinds of fun baby things for his room. As I searched for the perfect blankets, sheets, etc. I found it was hard to find something that fit my style and didn’t scream “baby”. I wanted his room to be modern and unique with a style he could grow with and wouldn’t feel outgrown when he transitioned from baby to “big boy”. I had so much fun creating everything, and with encouragement from my mom I decided to turn my new found hobby into a business. I spent my maternity leave putting together my first wholesale order, and as my wholesale business started to increase, I decided to take the plunge and open my Etsy store 6 months later in February 2016.

Castle Logo: You make beautiful ankle cuffs and bracelets through your business Aubbie Roe. How did you get started?
aubbie: I am a big fan of Emonk Ibiza’s boots and sandals. I saw them on Instagram, and instantly wanted a pair, but they were way out of my price range. I thought I could probably make something similar myself, so I went out and bought a sewing machine and made a couple pair of what has become the AubbieRoe ankle cuffs. I really enjoyed making them, and everyone loved them, so I started selling them at local markets, craft fairs and online through Etsy, Facebook and Instagram.

Favorite Fall Tracks

BY CAILIN BURKE

Once fall hits, my music taste goes from upbeat and summery to more quiet and folksy. My favorite genre in any season is indie folk – but in the fall I really have a hard time listening to anything else. I’m always looking for new bands to listen to, so I’ve mashed up some undiscovered talent with other songs you may have already heard!

And if there’s any artist/song you think I should check out, let me know in the comments or on any of our social feeds!

Feature Friday: We Perceive

Happy Feature Friday!

Today we’re excited to feature our first blogger duo, Sydney and Kimberlin of We Perceive. We love that We Perceive is a bi-coastal blog and that they work together from opposite sides of the country! While Kimberlin is in Portland, Sydney is in NYC and their site gives readers a glimpse of life in these two amazing cities! Plus they make “adulting” look as fun as it should be. For more from these BFFs make sure to check out their Instagram, Facebook, and keep reading!

Castle Logo: We love that you’re a co-curated blog, just like us! Could you each tell us a little about yourselves?

IMG_6046 – KBG: From 9-5, Monday through Friday (and sometimes weekends), I work the ins and outs of social media at an amazing creative agency in the heart of the Industrial Pearl District. If I’m not in front of the computer screen, I’m out grabbing happy hour having a glass of wine and some delish food, romping around the city, or out exploring the natural beauty Oregon has to offer. I also love to get creative, whether it is painting, drawing, making DIY goods, or taking photos.

SPV: We are each living this crazy, wonderful adult life that looks way different from the other’s and way different from the life we lived growing up in the same state. On the day to day, I work my butt off in media and drink wine at awesome bars with the amazing friends I have made in NYC.

Merry Christmas and Happy Feature Friday!

Since it is Christmas, we decided it’d be really fun to swap and share some Christmas memories with you all! We reached out to Lizzy Jensen of The Small Seed and Kristi Waite of Grace Supply Co., to ask them what Christmas means to them and to tell us about some of their favorite Christmas pasts. We loved getting to know why Christmas is so special to each of them. Both gals are doing some incredibly inspirational things, so definitely check out their sites in the links above and read on to learn more about them!

Castle Logo: Tell us a little about yourself and The Small Seed.

logo: My name is Lizzy Jensen, and 3 years ago I started The Small Seed, a non-denominational blog about faith. It was my way to put my own faith “out there” and to hopefully share the joy and purpose that following God has brought to my life. Now there is nothing that brings me greater joy than hearing how it’s blessed someone else!

Castle Logo: What does Christmas mean to you?

logo: Christmas means two of my favorite things, celebrating the life of Jesus Christ, and giving to those I love! This year has been so special as my oldest is almost 4 and is really understanding the story of Jesus’ birth. When I asked her why it was the most important story ever she responded, “Because He loves us.” Out of the mouth of babes right?

Castle Logo: Do you have a favorite Christmas memory or time when you encountered Jesus during the holiday season?

logo: About 10 years ago I served a mission for my church in Croatia. It was the most amazing time, and also the most lonely time of my life. I had so many times where I had no one to turn to but my Savior, but it was in the loneliest times that I learned that He is always there. My first Christmas I remember waking up extra early and kneeling to thank my Heavenly Father for the gift of His Son. As I prayed a warm and tender feeling washed over me, almost like a big hug, and I felt so much love from Him, and from my Savior. Although it wasn’t a Christmas where I was surrounded by family or friends, it will be a Christmas I always remember as one of the most special.

Castle Logo: Tell us about yourself and Grace Supply Co.

Screenshot (268): Well hi, my name is Kristi Waite! I’m a 25 year old fashion, life, encouragement and Jesus rules blogger. My main goal behind everything I do, is to help others or make others feel encouraged and reminded as to how awesome they are. I am also the owner and designer behind Grace Supply Co. Grace Supply Co is a small business I started about a year ago where I design and sell purses. My grandma taught me how to sew (she’s amazing) and I ended up loving it and found it a great stress reliever. I’m hoping to add other goodies like graphic tees and pillows in the next year. The best part is, 10% of each purchase is donated to our Veterans! I came up with the name “Grace” because of God’s seriously kick butt grace. Jesus is a pretty great dude. Oh and if you want to know a few other things about me, I LOVE Star Wars (you should see my bedroom), I drink way too much coffee, I want to save every animal on the planet and I love being outdoors. I recently started a monthly bible verse/encouraging goody subscription, so if you need a monthly pick me up, you should totally check it out, it’s free! Ok, I’d say that just about sums me up 🙂

Castle Logo: What does Christmas mean to you?

Screenshot (268): Who doesn’t love Christmas? As long as we remember the true meaning behind it and don’t let the stress of finding the perfect gifts get in the way of how awesome Christmas is, it’s the best. I mean how cool is it that Jesus came to earth for each and everyone of us, He came to bring joy and show us His great love. Jesus came to earth to die on the cross for all of our sins. Holy moly, that’s crazy and awesome and shows us what God’s love really looks like. Besides all that amazingness, Christmas is the best time to love everyone, tell others about Jesus, give what we can and be truly grateful for this life. Christmas can be a great time for healing and renewed strength and is also the best time to eat a lot of cookies, ham, pie and other good food. I love food.

Screenshot (265)

Castle Logo: Do you have a favorite Christmas memory or time when you encountered Jesus during the holiday season?

Screenshot (268): My favorite Christmas memory where I encountered Jesus wasn’t exactly on Christmas but happened a few weeks ago. I walk my dogs everyday and had made friends with an older couple down the road, who are unbelievably cute. I noticed they were gone for a couple weeks and had found out my buddy John had a stroke. He was ok, but couldn’t get around without a cane, his eyesight was still poor and his left side wasn’t functioning 100%. BUT with all the problems he was facing, he was still as hilarious, happy and excited as he was every other day. I baked them cookies to bless them, but instead was invited over to hang out with them and I was the one being blessed. Isn’t that what Christmas is all about? We want to bless others, but end up being the one that is truly blessed. Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness lead to the best friendships.

Feature Friday: Jenny Dale Designs

Happy Feature Friday!
Jennifer Stables
We are so excited about today’s feature with Jennifer Stables of Jenny Dale Designs. The characters she creates in her pieces are so adorable and each one has so much life and personality! We love that she takes the creativity to the next level by accompanying each piece with a poem that tells more about the character and makes for a unique addition to each purchase. Although her art is amazing for a child’s room we still think a lot of these would be great on any wall! They would totally add a quirky touch to your desk space or reading nook. You can tell how much of herself Jennifer puts into these pieces and the happiness that her characters bring to so many people. Keep reading to hear about how she got her start and inspiration.
