Feature Friday: We Perceive

Happy Feature Friday!

Today we’re excited to feature our first blogger duo, Sydney and Kimberlin of We Perceive. We love that We Perceive is a bi-coastal blog and that they work together from opposite sides of the country! While Kimberlin is in Portland, Sydney is in NYC and their site gives readers a glimpse of life in these two amazing cities! Plus they make “adulting” look as fun as it should be. For more from these BFFs make sure to check out their Instagram, Facebook, and keep reading!

Castle Logo: We love that you’re a co-curated blog, just like us! Could you each tell us a little about yourselves?

IMG_6046 – KBG: From 9-5, Monday through Friday (and sometimes weekends), I work the ins and outs of social media at an amazing creative agency in the heart of the Industrial Pearl District. If I’m not in front of the computer screen, I’m out grabbing happy hour having a glass of wine and some delish food, romping around the city, or out exploring the natural beauty Oregon has to offer. I also love to get creative, whether it is painting, drawing, making DIY goods, or taking photos.

SPV: We are each living this crazy, wonderful adult life that looks way different from the other’s and way different from the life we lived growing up in the same state. On the day to day, I work my butt off in media and drink wine at awesome bars with the amazing friends I have made in NYC.

Fall Looks with the Shop Spring App

Screen Shot 2015-11-09 at 4.03.16 PM

For this post, we’re excited to team up with the shopping destination, Spring, to share our fall style using clothes you can get from them! Spring is a mobile app that lets you easily search from hundreds of brands to find something you love! Best part, shipping is always free! And they have some pretty amazing clothes, accessories, and decor so that doesn’t hurt either. What we really loved about the app is that you get a customized feed of products based off your interests. You can pick your interests with categories from graphic tees and fair-trade, to backpacks and streetwear! And yes, I couldn’t help but pick all of those. Tara and I each put together a look for you, one fall casual look and one fancier look. All of the products are linked below and go to the Spring website, but be sure to try the app too! Happy Shopping!

DIY Pumpkin Painting

BY CAILIN BURKE

Halloween is right around the corner but the World Series is already here! I decided to combine the two when pumpkin painting this year. For some reason I had the overwhelming want to recreate the Mets home run apple, but didn’t realize how difficult it would be. After many hours, I love how it turned out and wanted to show you the steps to creating a more difficult pumpkin masterpiece!

Feature Friday: Caterham Design

22_September_Kate_Website_Profile_Photo_1Happy Feature Friday!

Today we’re bringing to you Catherine Dawes of Caterham Design! We fell in love with her hand-lettering instantly and think it’s so cool that something as simple as a phrase can be written to look fun, stylish, or even sophisticated. Catherine really does a great job in making sure her typography communicates something. We love how her pieces all have their own feeling or vibe attached to them! She has a lot of great advice to share and we can’t wait for you to keep reading to learn more about her creative journey thus far.

Castle Logo: Tell us a little about who you are.

CD logo:  Hi! I’m Catherine, a graphic artist from South Africa specializing in hand-lettering and calligraphy. I run my design studio, Caterham Design, from a dusty farm on the edge of the Kalahari; where I drink lots of coffee, eat my fair share of buttery pastries, and create hand-crafted designs for creative, artisan companies and individuals.

Fall Outfit of the Day

BY CAILIN BURKE

For today’s fall outfit I wore this awesome Saturday Evening Post tee that I actually got at a unique gift shop in Buffalo. I tied a crochet sweater around my waist to add an extra fall layer, and threw on my absolute favorite ripped boyfriend jeans. These jeans are perfect because if you don’t feel like wearing tight skinny jeans just yet but it’s too cold for shorts, you can wear a loose boyfriend cut.

I also love the half bun topknot trend since it’s an easy way to make it look like you put some effort into your hair even if it only took 30 seconds! What are some of your favorite fall trends? Whether they be hair, beauty or style we want to know!

LIC Flea & Food

BY CAILIN BURKE

As much as we love Smorgasburg, we’ve tried so much food there that we wanted to switch it up a bit and had heard the Long Island City Flea & Food Market had a ton of new vendors we had never heard of! Plus, aside from Mets games we don’t head to Queens that often, so we thought it would be the perfect place to spend a Sunday afternoon.

NYC Weekend Brunch

BY CAILIN BURKE

If you know anything about NYC, then you know weekend brunch is a sacred tradition. Well for us, not really a tradition since it is pretty pricy, but we do love to test out new brunch spots once in a while. We had some friends from our hometown come visit and couldn’t let them leave without the typical brunch! So we headed to Cafe Orlin in the East Village at around 11 on a Saturday morning.

We had heard there would probably be a long wait since all of those other city dwellers love their brunch, and when we got there we saw a few people waiting outside. Luckily, the cards were in our favor because literally 5 seconds after I put in my name for the wait list, we were called inside and got the most perfect private table! It helped that we were a group of four since most people there were in groups of 2 or 3 tops and had to wait for smaller tables to free up.

Rockaway Beach

BY CAILIN BURKE

It’s crazy that amidst all of NYC there can be beautiful beaches within the boroughs! We had already been to Brighton Beach (near Coney Island- read our post about it here!) so I wanted to try something new and had heard Rockaway Beach in Queens was beautiful! It was tricky to get there since we found out much, much too late that there was limited subway service. The good thing is that normally all you have to do is take the subway there so it’s such an affordable trip! In our instance though, we had to transfer to a bus but it ended up working out since it took us further down the beach and we ended up getting off around 100th St. This area was far less crowded than the rest of the beach so we lucked out (but shh don’t tell too many people!). Rockaway Beach was just as I had heard, beautiful, clean, and so relaxing!
