Exploring the Omi International Arts Center

BY CAILIN BURKE

If you haven’t noticed by all of our Feature Fridays, we are huge art lovers so if there’s ever a chance to check out a new artist or head to a museum, we’re there!
One day while scrolling through Instagram, I stumbled upon Omi International Arts Center and it looked incredible! Even better, it was located in NY! It wasn’t too far of a drive, so one weekend we headed there to check out all of the art in their Fields Sculpture Park.

We had always passed Storm King Art Center on our drive to college and wanted to go check out the huge sculptures, but never had the chance. So when we saw that the Omi Center had a similar concept and admission was –FREE– we had to go! It’s basically a huge outdoor area with different sculptures strewn throughout the premises.

Must Visit: Cha Cha Matcha

BY CAILIN BURKE

I’ve expressed my love/obsession for matcha in numerous posts, so when we heard a new ALL MATCHA EVERYTHING MATCHA place was opening, we were so excited to go! Not only does Cha Cha Matcha focus on the greatest drink/flavor ever, but when we saw photos of how cute the place was, we were sold! We headed there crossing our fingers to find seats on a Saturday afternoon (this place gets crowded) and strolled right in to find adorable bench seating available!

Feature Friday: We Perceive

Happy Feature Friday!

Today we’re excited to feature our first blogger duo, Sydney and Kimberlin of We Perceive. We love that We Perceive is a bi-coastal blog and that they work together from opposite sides of the country! While Kimberlin is in Portland, Sydney is in NYC and their site gives readers a glimpse of life in these two amazing cities! Plus they make “adulting” look as fun as it should be. For more from these BFFs make sure to check out their Instagram, Facebook, and keep reading!

Castle Logo: We love that you’re a co-curated blog, just like us! Could you each tell us a little about yourselves?

IMG_6046 – KBG: From 9-5, Monday through Friday (and sometimes weekends), I work the ins and outs of social media at an amazing creative agency in the heart of the Industrial Pearl District. If I’m not in front of the computer screen, I’m out grabbing happy hour having a glass of wine and some delish food, romping around the city, or out exploring the natural beauty Oregon has to offer. I also love to get creative, whether it is painting, drawing, making DIY goods, or taking photos.

SPV: We are each living this crazy, wonderful adult life that looks way different from the other’s and way different from the life we lived growing up in the same state. On the day to day, I work my butt off in media and drink wine at awesome bars with the amazing friends I have made in NYC.

Fall Looks with the Shop Spring App

Screen Shot 2015-11-09 at 4.03.16 PM

For this post, we’re excited to team up with the shopping destination, Spring, to share our fall style using clothes you can get from them! Spring is a mobile app that lets you easily search from hundreds of brands to find something you love! Best part, shipping is always free! And they have some pretty amazing clothes, accessories, and decor so that doesn’t hurt either. What we really loved about the app is that you get a customized feed of products based off your interests. You can pick your interests with categories from graphic tees and fair-trade, to backpacks and streetwear! And yes, I couldn’t help but pick all of those. Tara and I each put together a look for you, one fall casual look and one fancier look. All of the products are linked below and go to the Spring website, but be sure to try the app too! Happy Shopping!

Fall Outfit of the Day

BY CAILIN BURKE

For today’s fall outfit I wore this awesome Saturday Evening Post tee that I actually got at a unique gift shop in Buffalo. I tied a crochet sweater around my waist to add an extra fall layer, and threw on my absolute favorite ripped boyfriend jeans. These jeans are perfect because if you don’t feel like wearing tight skinny jeans just yet but it’s too cold for shorts, you can wear a loose boyfriend cut.

I also love the half bun topknot trend since it’s an easy way to make it look like you put some effort into your hair even if it only took 30 seconds! What are some of your favorite fall trends? Whether they be hair, beauty or style we want to know!

It’s all in the Name: Dun-Well Doughnuts

BY TARA BURKE

If you’re looking for some delicious doughnuts don’t look any further than Dun-Well doughnuts just off the Montrose L Train stop in Brooklyn. If you’re looking for vegan doughnuts also look no further than Dun-Well. Yes, you read that right. Dun-Well’s doughnuts are completely vegan and are more than comparable to a traditional doughnut.

Strollin’ on a Sunday

BY CAILIN BURKE

For us, Sundays are our total relaxing day. After church we usually like to just hang out, walk around, and get some NYC eats. This time we took the walking around a little far and found ourselves walking about an hour all the way to Soho!

IMG_0906

We go to church at Hillsong NYC in Midtown, so it was definitely quite the walk. Since it was a beautiful day it was no big deal. Plus I love going to Soho as it’s one of my favorite areas of Manhattan! Once in Soho we decided to grab coffee and lunch at Ground Support. It’s this cute little cafe that has tons of light, wood tables, and even a bench for a window seat!

Fashion: Nautical Prints

BY TARA BURKE

Nautical prints always catch my eye. They instantly make me think of carefree days boating on a lake or sitting on a beach watching the sailboats go by. I found this shirt at a thrift store and loved how there was a big anchor shape knitted right into the fabric. I like how subtle the anchor is and I actually think it makes a greater impact being the same color as the rest of the shirt. I also think the cut of the neck is really interesting. It is a high, straight neck line with ribbed knitting, which you don’t see too often on today’s clothing. That’s one of my favorite things about thrifting, vintage silhouettes! I paired the look with some statement white earrings from my Mom’s collection, light-wash jeans and last but not least my favorite summer wedges! I LOVE these heels because I’ve never seen anything like them. They were made in Italy and have the words Dolce & Salato (Sweet & Savory) in Italian embroidered on them. To accompany the saying there is a slice of cake on the dolce heel and a savory egg dish on the right heel. They are so fun to wear and they certainly get people’s attention.

Sunday Sweats

BY TARA BURKE

One of the great things about Sundays is being able to relax at home in sweats and unwind before the work week starts. However, I always end up doing a few afternoon errands before hauling in for the night. I don’t really go out of the house in sweatpants too often, but I found this perfect pair of sweatpants that are nicer for those lazy days. I mean sometimes you wish you could be one of those people that goes out in the world with their pajamas still on. These are a great alternative because they’re super comfy and great for lounging in, but have a fun patten and not too slouchy fit for a more polished look.

Bibble & Sip

BY TARA BURKE

Whenever we have nothing particular to do, but want to get out of the house Cai and I search for a new coffee spot. This time we ended up at Bibble and Sip on 51st St. and 8th Ave.

IMG_0971

This small cafe is super cute with window bar stool seating along with a few tables. They have their menu offerings on chalkboards all over the cafe and the best part of all their decor is the alpaca theme. Their brand logo and symbol is the alpaca and they have them on their to-go cups, business cards and as garden trimmings displayed on the wall.

Cailin ordered a lavender latte and I got a regular latte. Cailin loved her lavender latte and said it had just the right hint of lavender sweetness. My latte had a great smooth flavor and of course everyone adores some latte art from time to time!
