XC Skiing the Berkshires

BY CAILIN BURKE

As New Yorkers, we have a ton of snow most years and wanted to make the most of it! We love cross country skiing (after going a handful of times when we were younger) and had the random urge to go this month! Our friend Kbray is all about skiing these days too, so she joined in on the fun! We decided to head to the Berkshires (in Massachusetts) since it’s one of our favorite mountain areas! Usually, we go there in the summer for their chill lakes, locally owned coffee shops, and great music and museum options! (Hit us up for recommendations on any of these – seriously!) We actually had never been to the Berkshires during the winter months, but a cool guy named James Taylor once sang, “…The Berkshires seemed dreamlike on account of that frosting…,” and so going there for a snow-related activity just made sense. He was right, by the way – totally dreamlike.

Thanksgiving 2014

BY TARA BURKE

We hope all our American readers had a lovely Thanksgiving! We certainly did and we wanted to extend a special thanks to all our readers for viewing our posts! It has been great getting to know such talented people for Feature Fridays and getting to share a little about ourselves with you all. Thank you for reading and here’s a quick look into how we spent our holiday.

Cailin and I arrived home right before a snow storm hit. We got a lot less snow than predicted so it ended up just making everything look pretty without all the work of shoveling. I personally love the snow and I don’t think we’ve had snow for Thanksgiving in awhile, so I took it in with some hot cocoa, fuzzy slippers and a cozy spot on the couch.

On Thanksgiving Day we got up to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Purina Dog Show. This is one of my favorite traditions. It is always fun to root for your favorite breed to win at the dog show and there’s something about Santa pulling onto 34th St. that just kick starts all the festive feelings of the holiday season.

After that it was time to eat! As per usual we stuffed our faces and couldn’t move for the next few hours. Luckily, we watched the movie, Draft Day, in between dinner and dessert so we could prep our stomachs for PIES! If you like football then you’ll probably enjoy this movie. As the title suggests, it is all about the insider details behind the NFL Draft Day.

To end our day we got together to watch the football game. We had a lot of fun spending time with our family and taking a moment out of our busy schedules to acknowledge and appreciate all the blessings we have. We truly have a lot to be grateful for and I love having a holiday to celebrate that.

New York Fashion Week 2014

BY TARA BURKE

This week Cailin and I were able to go to New York Fashion Week to see Anna Sui’s Fall/Winter 2014 Collection. I interned there over a summer and it’s one of the perks of the internship to be invited to the shows each season. It’s always fun to reunite with my intern girls, prance around Lincoln Center and experience the catwalk the way industry insiders do. Our first stop was the Anna Sui showroom to pick up our tickets. The office was bustling with last minute preparations for the show, so we quickly picked up our tickets, got a quick soup at the Pret a Manager nearby and then headed to Lincoln Center.

It was pretty cold in the city, so we both opted for leather jackets in order to stay kind of warm! We didn’t want to haul around big jackets when we were inside, so we just decided to bear the elements as best we could. I finished my look with a pair of printed pants and wedge booties. Cailin completed her look with leather lined leggings and colorful stilettos.

This season the inside of Lincoln Center had a dark, luxurious feeling. They had their typical seating and food areas, along with their high tech screens of the various fashion shows going on in every corner. Before the show we had fun stopping by the Samsung Galaxy booth and getting our portraits drawn on their tablets, and getting cute tote bags.

Then it was showtime! I really liked the collection for the coming up Fall season. It was a throwback to many different decades in fashion. It had a 20’s, hippie vibe that also tied in some modern trends like sporty bomber jackets. Overall, I though it was a pretty cool look. After the show we were invited to the E! Glamcam hangout on the second floor of the venue. The Glamcam is the same one they use on celebrities at big events that give a 360 degree view of what they are wearing. It was fun to have the same experience as the celebs! You can see the Glamcam in action here: http://instantglamcam.com/2014/fashionweek/?id=1873!

Sadly, we had to leave the city to catch a train back home before the huge snow storm hit, but we had a great time at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week!

Throwback to Summer Time Food

BY TARA BURKE

Now that winter is in full swing, I find myself daydreaming about those carefree, long and warm summer days. And of course, I’m always daydreaming about food. Enjoy…

IMG_6287

A favorite summer treat: Fraps! Especially during Frappuccino Happy Hour.

IMG_6215

One of Cailin’s all-time favorites: Chocolate Dipped Ice Cream!

Can you believe that is frozen yogurt?! Couldn’t even tell the difference.

IMG_6641

Fried food. Enough said. Mouth watering…

IMG_6794

Froyo is the best!

IMG_6993

Shakeshack burgers or anything off the grill= summertime.

Iced anything from Starbucks.

More coffee and froyo. Summer essentials.

Everyone needs to try an A&W rootbeer float in their lifetime. If there are no actual A&W food stops near you, try and buy A&W rootbeer in the grocery store and make your own!

IMG_9020

BLIZZARDS from Dairy Queen! Those things defy gravity.

IMG_9050

Hubert’s and Arnold Palmer are the perfect summer refreshments.

IMG_9073

Orange Julius smoothies. So delish!

The CHEESE!

And remember, you are never to old to chase down the ice cream truck!
